All competitors must have completed similar events or have mountaineering skills suited to fast travel in rough mountain terrain. A competitor must be proficient in the use of map and compass in bad visibility. In addition to the standard equipment of a map covering the race area, a compass and a whistle, full body cover must be worn or carried throughout the event. You are also advised to carry sustenance.
The long Duddon is an English championships counter this year. Entries to the Long Duddon are now closed, but you can still enter the short race on the day.
Entry forms should be sent to James Goffe, High Hurst, Ulpha, Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria LA20 6DZ, with a cheque for £8 per runner made payable to Duddon Race Committee A/C. They must arrive by May 14. Dibbers and numbers are collected from 9.15 on in Seathwaite Parish Hall, which is about 100 yards up the road from the Newfield. The short race can only be entered on the day.
Competitors must also report to race control when arriving back in the finish area.
Checkpoint closing times are on the routes page. Anyone reaching a closed checkpoint will be retired from the race and asked to head for the finish. Runners arriving at Three Shires after it has closed will be provided with transport back to the finish. Make sure that race control knows that you’re safe: there is always someone who we have to track down, and Mountain Rescue hate being called out for people who are in the pub. You can also telephone the Newfield Inn on 01229 716208. There is a public telephone at Cockley Beck Cattle Grid, GR 246016.
